Introduce students to the concepts of elements, compounds, and mixtures with special emphasis on separating mixtures by filtration and differences in solubility, chromatography, and evaporation. Students separate two mixtures by filtration and differences in solubility, one mixture using paper chromatography, and one mixture by evaporation. They isolate component colors from the chromatogram to further examine individual components. Includes all required chemicals, vocabulary exercise, reproducible worksheets and laboratory procedures. Required, but not included: balance and laboratory supplies. Designed for 24 students working in six groups of four.
