Membrane scaffold proteins derive from apolipoprotein (apo; A-I). They are used in membrane protein sciences to stabilize membrane proteins in a lipid environment after removing the cell membrane. The size of the nanodisc is determined by the MSP that was used to create the disc. MSP1E3D1 D73C creates nanodiscs of 12 to 14 nm in diameter. This product contains an additional point mutation, D73C. This additional cysteine can be used to modify the MSP protein further and, thus, the nanodisc. An example of such a modification would be the addition of a Biotin-tag.
