In this activity, students play the role of the diagnostician in the following scenario. Patients arrive at the emergency room with fever and cough. A viral infection is suspected and must be confirmed or ruled-out from patient samples. Pre-amplified plasmid DNA is used to emulate the virus; no actual viral particles are used.

Kit includes enough for 24 sets of reagents to be aliquoted by the teacher into individual tubes for take-home by students. Each student will experience both a positive and negative reaction. Samples may be stored at room-temperature. Empty tubes for aliquoting not included.

DNA is pre-amplified, so the LAMP-step is simulated. Kits with actual LAMP reaction also available.
