About this item

Riker mount of insect metamorphosis for comparison.

  • High quality display mount

Compare the stages of simple (hemimetabolous) metamorphosis to those of complete (holometabolous) metamorphosis with this display.

In simple metamorphosis the insect has only 3 life stages: egg, nymph (looks like a smaller, wingless adult), and adult. This type of development is shown using specimens from a grasshopper. With complete metamorphosis there are 4 distinct stages: egg, larva (a worm-like stage), pupa (non-feeding and sessile), and finally adult. These stages are represented using butterfly specimens.

All specimens are clearly labeled and presented in a 6×8" display.
