The MELISA-TEK™ Meat Species Kit detects animal species proteins in meat and bone meals and animal feeds.
- Speciation of products containing animal proteins
- Detects only prohibited materials
- Effective with canned and retorted products
The MELISA-TEK™ Meat Species Kit is a method for speciation of products containing animal proteins based on patented monoclonal antibodies sensitive to troponin I, a thermal-stable, muscle-specific antigen
The MELISA-TEK™ Meat Species Kit detects animal species proteins in meat and bone meals and animal feeds. The MELISA Ruminant Kit detects bovine, ovine, and caprine troponin I. The MELISA Pork Kit detects porcine troponin I.
Testing for the presence of the species content in animal feeds is important due to the potential for transmission of TSE. Due to the high processing temperatures used in rendering meat and bone meals, other methods (PCR, conventional species ELISA) are limited in their ability to distinguish species content in animal feed products.
It can determine the species content of thermally processed products including those processed under conditions exceeding 133°C and three bars of pressure. Detects only prohibited materials and not milk or blood and is effective with canned and retorted products.
