C-series columns are designed for standard chromatography. The column hardware consists of borosilicate glass, PA, fuororubber, PP, superpolyoxymethylene and silicon rubber. The eluent inlet pieces incorporate a 'reverse funnel' design that distributes eluent evenly over the cross-sectional area of the gel bed surface. This causes minimal disturbance of the gel bed and results in improved flow properties. These columns are resistant to aqueous solutions and solvents used in liquid chromatography. They are not resistant to acetone, ketones, chlorinated hydrocarbons, aliphatic esters, phenol, NaOH, >10% HCl, >5% acetic acid, or strong mineral acid.
- Economical modular columns for low pressure or gravity feed, providing even distribution of eluent to the medium bed, even without flow adapters
- Compatible with a variety of bulk media
- Flow adapters are available for each of the column diameters to allow optimal bed heights for each application, as are thermostatic jackets for precise temperature control
- Packing reservoirs for each column diameter optimize packing conditions
- Porosity: 10 or 80 µm
- Bed support: PA net
- Inlet and outlet ID: 1,0 mm
Flow adapters: The basic C columns are of fixed volume, but can be upgraded by adding flow adaptors (which keep bed height constant and protect from insoluble particles) and a thermostatic jacket (see below). Three adjustable flow adaptors are available for the C column series (AC 10, AC 16 and AC 26), allowing the choice of bed height to suit the application.
Gel and eluent reservoirs: RC packing reservoirs, which are available for all three C column types, are quick and easy to assemble. Curved walls minimize the separation of gel beads by size during packing to produce homogeneous columns. Once the gel is in the column, the RC reservoir can be connected to a pump or Mariotte flask to give optimal flow rates for gel packing.
Temperature control: When working with temperature dependent separations, resolution and recovery can often be increased by fitting a C column with a JC thermostatic jacket. This allows accurate control or separation temperature without a cold room. JC jackets increase mechanical resistance of C columns, enabling operating pressures of upto 1 bar.
