4',6'-Diamidino-2-phenylindole dihydrochloride (DAPI dihydrochloride) used in nuclear staining

Supplier: Biotium

DAPI (4′,6-Diamidino-2-Phenylindole, dihydrochloride) is a popular blue DNA dye that is used as a nuclear counterstain in fluorescence microscopy, chromosome staining and flow cytometry. The dye binds to the minor groove of dsDNA with approximately 20-fold fluorescence enhancement, with higher affinity for A-T rich regions. Also see DAPI dilactate (catalog no. 40009), a more water soluble form of the dye.

4',6'-Diamidino-2-phenylindole dilactate (DAPI dilactate) fluorescent dye, used in nuclear staining

Supplier: Biotium

DAPI dilactate is essentially the same as DAPI dihydrochloride (catalog no. 40011), but with a different counterion. The dilactate salt form of the dye is more water soluble than the dihydrochloride salt, and therefore DAPI dilactate is a better choice for preparing stock solutions in water.

Di-4-ANEPPS membrane stain, for histology

Supplier: Biotium

Di-4-ANEPPS is a fast-responding membrane potential dye. Changes in the membrane potential of the cell correlate with changes in the fluorescence excitation intensity of the dye.

Di-8-ANEPPS membrane stain, for histology

Supplier: Biotium

ANEPPS dyes are fast responding membrane potential dyes. Compared to Di-4-ANEPPS, Di-8-ANEPPS is better retained in the outer leaflet of cell plasma membranes and thus more suitable for long-term membrane potential studies. Di-8-ANEPPS is also more photostable and less phototoxic than Di-4-ANEPPS

Lipophilic carbocyanine dyes and CellBrite cytoplasmic membrane labelling kits

Supplier: Biotium

Carbocyanine dyes with long hydrocarbon chains have low fluorescence in aqueous phase, but become highly fluorescent upon binding to lipid bilayers, making this class of dyes ideal for staining cell membranes. Carbocyanine dye membrane staining is very stable, with minimal dye transfer between cells. Dilinoleyl carbocynaine dyes have much faster lateral diffusion rates than regular carbocyanine dyes, which facilitates labelling of neurons in tissues.

3,3'-Di-n-hexyloxacarbocyanine iodide [DiOC6(3) iodide] membrane stain, for histology

Supplier: Biotium

DiOC6(3) (3,3′-Dihexyloxacarbocyanine,iodide) is a green fluorescent membrane dye that has been used to stain the ER in both live and fixed cells. The dye has also been used to study structural interactions and dynamics of the ER in neurons and yeast. In addition, the dye is widely used as a membrane potential dye.
