Allura Red AC comprises of 6-hydroxy-5-(2-methoxy-5-methyl-4-sulfonate-phenylazo)-2-napthalene-sulfonate, which is basically an azo-coupling product between the meta-isomer of cresidine-p-sulphonic acid (CSA) and Schaeffer′s salt (SS).

• Soluble in water and is insoluble in ethanol

This powder exists in the form of dark red powder or granules and finds application in being used in food colors.
