Glutaraldehyde is also referred to as glutaral, 1,5-pentanedione, potentiated acid glutaraldehyde, sonacide, and glutardialdehyde. Pure monomeric glutaraldehyde has an absorbance peak at 280 nm and the main impurity, possibly a polymer, has an absorbance peak at 235 nm. Upon analysis, this product is 25-28% by titration and has an A235/A280 ratio of not more than 0,5. Monomeric glutaraldehyde may be purified from polymeric glutaraldehyde by treatment with charcoal (5% w/v) and subsequent filtration (3-4 times). Untreated glutaraldehyde has an absorption at 235 nm that is 5 times greater than that at 280 nm, whereas, after three washings the values are about equal. Glutaraldehyde is a bifunctional cross-linking reagent, reacting with NH2 groups to form Schiff's bases.

Nerve terminal probes are a series of fluorescent cationic styryl dyes developed to follow synaptic activity. These dyes have a lipophilic tail at one end and a hydrophilic cationically charged head group at the other end. The dyes vary in the number of carbons in the lipophilic tail (m) and the number of double bonds linking the two aromatic rings in the dye (n). AM dyes are similar to FM dyes, but contain an additional formaldehyde-fixable amino group in the cationic head.

MIP-3 β signals through the G protein-coupled receptor CCR7 to regulate normal lymphocyte recirculation. Fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF-7), also known as keratinocyte growth factor (KGF), is a potent mitogen that regulates epithelial cell migration and differentiation. FGF-7 is produced by mesenchymal cells and binds in high affinity to a splice variant of FGF receptor 2 (FGFR2-IIIb). The mitogenic activity of FGF-7 acts predominantly on keratinocytes, but not on fibroblast or endothelial cells. FGF-7 expression is upregulated after acute and chronic injury, suggesting that FGF-7 functions during the healing of injured epithelial cells. FGF-7 also induces the formation of the apical ectodermal ridge during limb development.
