Test for the presence of microorganisms in media using the testing kits available. Within the food industry, use these tests to isolate and identify indicator organisms or foodborne pathogens. The supplies efficiently check food irradiation using accepted gold-standard food microbiology testing methods and can perform on-site testing of water samples to detect E. coli or other dangerous strains. All microorganism testing products are easy to use and user-friendly.

VWR® Preservation System, Cryoinstant
Supplier: VWR Chemicals
Microbiological laboratories need a simple procedure to maintain important microorganisms rather than repetitive sub-culturing, which results in contaminated cultures, loss of viability and, even more importantly, loss of original characteristics by introducing biochemical and genetic changes. Cryoinstant consists of 25 porous beads in a vial filled with a broth containing glycerol. Microorganisms will bind to the porous surface of the beads. The excess broth is aspirated, and the vials stored at temperatures down to –70 °C in a freezer.

Microorganism tests, BART test for sulfate-reducing bacteria
Supplier: Hach
BART biodetectors are excellent diagnostic tools to help identify the presence and activity of various bacteria. Sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) are one of the most important agents in biofouling and can cause corrosion, clogging, fouling of the water and increased hygiene risks.

Microorganism tests, BART test for slime-forming bacteria
Supplier: Hach
The SLYM-BARTs can be used as a P/A test capable of indicating to some extent the possible population size and the types of slime-forming organisms present in the water sample. Slime-forming bacteria are able to produce copious amounts of slime without necessarily having to use any iron. Iron bacteria also produce slime, but usually it is thinner and involves the accumulation of various forms of iron. BART biodetectors are excellent diagnostic tools to help identify the presence of process disruptors, such as bacteria creating slime layers and limiting disinfection.

Serratia Base
Supplier: CHROMAGAR
Serratia species are implicated in nosocomial infections. In several countries, Serratia marcescens is frequently associated with epidemics in intensive care units and in particular in neonatal and pediatric units. Surveillance of nosocomial infections requires effective recovery of clinical isolates from faeces, wound exudates and respiratory samples to prevent problems of cross infection and potentially fatal infections. In this context, CHROMagar™ has developed CHROMagar™ Serratia, a culture medium perfectly suited to the search for S. marcescens in faeces. In addition, S. marcescens is able to survive days to months on surfaces, distilled water and hand soap, making it an important pathogen in nosocomial infections and sporadic epidemics.

Sucrose for Bacteriological Use
Supplier: LIOFILCHEM
Sucrose is used as a source of energy readily available for bacteria in fermentation tests (i.e. Klebsiella pneumoniae ferments sucrose whilst Salmonella typhimurium gives a negative reaction). It free from other sugars and from starch, proteins and metals. Sucrose can be used as an ingredient of dehydrated culture media and need dissolution in distilled or deionised water and sterilisation by autoclaving.
