The System II Hex Cassette differs from conventional round hole processing cassettes in that it has hexagonal instead of round perforations arranged in a honeycombed structure to better utilise the available surface area.

This unique arrangement increases the open area by approximately 13 percent thereby increasing reagent flow through and improving specimen staining and analysis time.

A potential cost saving benefit is that there is less carry over of chemicals so reducing the frequency of chemical change.

Although made to an international industry standard size, the Hex Cassette is designed to suit all established cassette–writing machines and benefits from extra thick side walls, so increasing stability and rigidity, which is crucial for high quality sectioning.
