When sectioning frozen tissue for rapid surgical biopsy diagnosis or for research (typically in Histochemistry), the tissue sample must be firmly attached to the microtome stage or chuck. Frozen section compound is a fast-acting, water-soluble embedding compound designed for use in frozen sectioning. The compound bonds and encapsulates tissue specimens to the object holder for cryosectioning. At a working temperature of –20 °C, it provides optimal sectioning consistency with minimal section curling.

EverBrite™ mounting media are anti-fade mountants for preserving fluorescence during microscopy. EverBrite™ mounting media prevent rapid photobleaching of fluorescein, rhodamine, and cyanine based dyes and are optimally formulated for use with Biotum’s CF™ dye conjugates. Unlike Vectashield® EverBrite™ mounting media is compatible with Cy® dyes such as Cy®2, Cy®3 and Cy®5. EverBrite™ mounting medium is a wet-set medium while EverBrite™ hardset mounting medium cures overnight to form a hard permanent seal with the coverslip, eliminating the need to seal coverslip edges with nail polish or other sealants. Both formulations are available with DAPI for blue fluorescent nuclear counterstaining without an additional staining step.

The number after the name indicates increasing viscosity: Q Path® Coverquick 1000 has the lower viscosity (around 260 mPaS) and Q Path® Coverquick 4000 has the higher viscosity (around 920 mPaS).

Vectashield® Mounting Medium is a unique, stable formula for preserving fluorescence. It is superior to other anti-fading reagents or mounting media for fluorescence microscopy. Some agents retard the rate of fading, but their initial application gives a severe reduction in emission. Others give a good initial reading but bleach upon illumination. Vectashield® Mounting Medium combines both advantages into one product. It provides strong initial fluorescence and retards photobleaching over time. Vectashield® Mounting Medium is supplied in a bottle fitted with a cone-seal cap. A cap fitted with a drop dispenser pipette is also included. The cone-seal cap can be replaced with the drop dispenser cap for routine use and during storage. Mounted slides should be stored at 4 °C. The fluorescence will remain for many weeks.
