Ampicillin sodium salt is a semi-synthetic derivative of penicillin, active as a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is inactivated by beta-lactamases and for this reason a beta-lactamase inhibitor should be considered when using ampicillin. Against gram-positive bacteria, ampicillin has a similar mode of action as benzylpenicillin; against gram-negative bacteria, it has a similar mode of action as chloramphenicol and tetracyclines. In E. coli it inhibits cell wall synthesis.

PIPES is a zwitterionic N-substituted aminosulfonic acid "Good" buffer.
PIPES is used to buffer glutaraldehyde fixative solutions when fixing plant and/or animal tissue samples. This will help prevent the loss of lipids. It is also used to buffer glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde when fixing fungal zoospores for fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy. PIPES tends to give optimal results.
Buffers can be made by adding a solution of base to PIPES free acid, titrating to the appropriate pH.

The IgG fraction is prepared from the specific goat antiserum by delipidation, ammonium sulfate fractionation and anion exchange chromatography. The resulting IgG fraction is dialyzed into 0.02M sodium phosphate, 0.14M sodium chloride, pH 7.3, with 0.05% sodium azide, adjusted to standard titer, filtered through a 0.22 µm filter, vialed and lyophilized

The total protein is measured using the Biuret procedure, with bovine albumin as a standard. Antibody titer is standardized to an in-house standard by equivalence-point precipitation. Each IgG fraction is tested for purity and specificity at a minimum of 40 mg/mL using immunoelectrophoresis. The product is mostly goat IgG; no trace of albumin is detected.
