These columns contain a silica-based protein phase for HPLC enantiomer separation. The base material is NUCLEOSIL® silica, the chiral selector bovine serum albumin (BSA).

The separation based on the selective interaction of the protein with low molecular compounds, i. e. principles of bioaffinity, including hydrophobic and polar interactions as well as steric effects. The eluent in the column is 0,1 M phosphate buffer (pH 7,5) with 2% 1-propanol.
Recommended applications are the chiral separations of aromatic and further amino acid derivatives, aromatic sulphoxides, barbiturates, benzodiazepinones, β-blockers, benzoin and coumarin derivatives as well as the monitoring of microbial and enzymatic conversions.
