Micropipettes are used to safely deliver precise microliter amounts of liquids for testing. The simple operation requires the top plunger to be pressed down and when released the liquid is drawn in. By depressing again, the captured fluid is dispensed. Fixed or adjustable volume styles may have built-in tip stops to prevent overflow. The graduations on the transparent instrument body and colour coding guarantees the correct capacity is used.

Micro pipettes are precision-bore glass capillary tubes cut to predetermined lengths so that fill volumes are constant and precise. Capillary action draws the fluid into the tube and a squeeze of the bulb dispenses it with accuracy of ±1%.
