In combination with the selective supplement Lithium-Mupirocin (MUP) the TOS Propionate agar allows the direct detection of viable bifidobacteria in starter cultures and various milk products like fermented and unfermented milk, milk powder and baby food. The growth of other lactic acid bacteria is very much inhibited so that a confirmation of presumptive bifodobacteria is in most cases not necessary.

Selektivt medium för detektion av Enterobacter sakazakii i mjölkpulver och mjölkersättningspulver för småbarn. Basen i Chromocult® Enterobacter sakazakii-agarn ger god tillväxt och stark infärgning av E. sakazakii-kolonier. Tillsats av inhibitorer och inkuberingstemperatur vid 44 °C leder till kraftigt reducerad tillväxt av de flesta andra befintliga grampositiva och gramnegativa bakterier. E. sakazakii är ß-D-glucosidaspositiv och växer som blågröna kolonier på detta medium. Inkubering: 24 ±2 timmar vid 44 ±1 °C. Inkuberingstemperaturen påverkar kraftigt denna metods känslighet och selektivitet. Temperaturer över 45 °C hämmar tillväxten av E.sakazakii. Temperaturer under 43 °C minskar hämningen av andra förekommande bakterier.

Isolate, enumerate and presumptively identify Listeria species and L. monocytogenes from food and environmental samples with the Oxoid™ Brilliance™ Listeria Agar (ISO) (Dehydrated culture medium and supplements) following broth enrichment.
