Collagenase is a protease which cleaves the triple-helical protein called collagen. It has extensive use in biological studies, where it is used to prepare isolated cell suspensions.

It dissolve at a concentration of 1 mg/ml in 0,05 M TES with 0,36 mM calcium chloride, pH 7,5.
Unit definition: one unit will liberate peptides from collagen equivalent in ninhydrin color to 1,0 μmole of L-leucine in 5 hr at pH 7,4 and 37 °C in presence of calcium ions. Contains clostripain, neutral protease and trypsin activities.
