ULBP1, also known as RAET1I and NKG2DL1, is a member of the ULBP/RAET1 gene family. ULBP1 plays an important role in immune responses, especially in cancer and infectious diseases, and is well-known to bind to NKG2D together with at least ULBP 2 and 3. These proteins are distantly related to major histocompatibility class I (MHC I) molecules, possessing the alpha 1 and alpha 2 Ig-like domains, but lacking the alpha 3 domain. Unlike MHC Class I, they have no capacity to bind peptide or interact with beta2-microglobulin. It can activate multiple signaling pathways in primary NK cells, gamma delta T cells, and CD8+ alpha beta T cells, resulting in the production of cytokines and chemokines.ULBP1 is expressed in wide range of tissues including heart, brain, lung, liver, bone marrow and some tumor cells, T-cells, B-cells, As an unconventional member of the MHC class I family, ULBP1 is able to interact with soluble CMV glycoprotein UL16 in CMV infected cells. The interaction with UL16 blocked the interaction with the NKG2D receptor, and thus might escape the immune surveillance. Furthermore, UL16 also causes ULBP1 to be retained in the ER and cis-Golgi apparatus so that it does not reach the cell surface. The ULBP1 regulation may have implications for development of new therapeutic strategies against cancer cells.

The implication of alpha synuclein in neurodegenerative diseases started after the identification of non A beta component of amyloid (NAC peptide) in Alzheimeris disease (AD) brains.There is now a general group of synucleinopathies which implicates alpha synuclein in Lewy body syndromes, Parkinsonis disease, and Alzheimeris disease. Certain missense mutations in the alpha synuclein gene (A53T, A30P) have been linked to the familial Parkinsonis disease (PD). Alpha synuclein is the major component of Lewy bodies and Lewy neuritis in sporadic PD, dementia with Lewy Bodies and Lewy Body variant of AD. Lewy bodies are composed of truncated and phosphorylated intermediate neurofilament proteins, alpha synuclein, ubiquitin and associated enzymes. The synuclein phosphoproteins (15-20 kD) are small highly conserved proteins in vertebrates. The synuclein family includes alpha and beta synucleins and loosely related gamma synuclein and synoretin.The expression is abundant in neurons and typically localized at presynaptic terminals. Antibodies to alpha synuclein provide a specific method to detect Lewy bodies and associated pathological mechanism of PD and AD.

RAS proteins are signal-transducing, guanine nucleotide-binding proteins that appear to function as a branchpoint in signal transduction. RAS coordinates the activity of multiple signalling pathways, regulating diverse cellular functions including cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. The human RAS gene family consists of three identified members which encode proteins of 21 kDa. Human cH RAS and cK RAS are the cellular homologs of vH- and vK RAS originally isolated from Harvey and Kirsten strains of rat sarcoma viruses. The third family member is designated cN RAS. Normal cellular ras genes are referred to as protooncogenes and have the potential for activation to oncogenes by mutations occurring in codons 12, 13 and 61. The serum amyloid A (SAA) family comprises a number of differentially expressed lipoproteins, acute-phase SAA1 and SAA2, the former being a major component in plasma, and constitutive SAA's (C-SAAs). Although the liver is the primary site of synthesis of both SAA types, extrhepatic production has been reported. The in-vivo concentrations increase by as much as 1000 fold during inflammation. Several studies have expressed it's importance in the diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases. Pathological SAA values are often detected in association with normal CRP concentrations. SAA rises earlier and more sharply than CRP.SAA enhances the binding of HDL's to macrophages and thus helps the delivery of lipid to sites of injury for use in tissue repair. It is thus thought to be an integral part of the disease process. In addition, recent experiments suggest that SAA may play a "houekeeping" role in normal human tissues.Elevated levels of SAA over time predispose secondary amyloidosis, extracellular accumulation of amyloid fibrils, derived from a circulating precursor, in various tissues and organs. The most common form of amyloidosis occurs secondary to chronic inflammatory disease, particularly rheumatoid artheritis.

Mouse Chordin-Like 2, also known as CHL2, is a novel chordin family member with structural homology to CHL1 which is implicated in tumor angiogenesis. The mouse CHL2 gene encodes a 426 amino acids (aa) protein with a 25 aa signal peptide. The mature chain of CHL2 protein contains two potential N-linked glycosylation sites, one putative NLS and three 63 aa cysteine-rich von Willebrand type C repeats (CRs). CHL2 gene is weakly expressed in the liver and kidney, partly expressed in the connective tissues of reproductive organs such as ligaments of the ovary and oviduct in females, and of testis, epididymis and certain male accessory sex glands in males. Recombinant mCHL2 protein interacted directly with five BMPs and one GDF thereby inhibiting, in vitro, several BMP/GDF-dependent processes including, osteogenic differentiation of C2C12 mesenchymal progenitor cells by several BMPs, ATDC5 embryonal carcinoma cells by GDF5 and BMP4-dependent lymphohematopoietic (CD34+CD31hi and CD34+CD31lo) progenitor cell development from ES cells. CHL2 may inhibits BMPs activity by blocking their interaction with their receptors, and has a negative regulator effect on the cartilage formation/regeneration from immature mesenchymal cells, by preventing or reducing the rate of matrix accumulation. Also, it may play a role during myoblast and osteoblast differentiation, and maturation.

Myosin is the major component of thick muscle filaments, and is a long asymmetric molecule containing a globular head and a long tail. The molecule consists of two heavy chains each ~200,000 daltons, and four light chains each ~16,000 - 21,000 daltons. Activation of smooth and cardiac muscle primarily involves pathways that increase calcium levels and myosin phosphorylation, resulting in contraction. Myosin light chain phosphatase acts to regulate muscle contraction by dephosphorylating activated myosin light chain. This antibody is specific for the phosphorylated form of myosin light chain. The selected peptide sequence used to generate the polyclonal antibody is located near the amino terminal end of the polypeptide corresponding to the smooth/non-muscle form of myosin regulatory light chain found in cardiac myocytes in addition to smooth and non-muscle cells. This sequence differs from that of the sarcomeric/cardiac form of myosin regulatory light chain that has a different sequence around the phosphorylation site. Human and mouse have almost identical sequences. In human the phosphorylation site is pS19, while in mouse the site maps to pS20.
