NALP5, also known as MATER, is a maternal gene required for early embryonic development in mice. Increased NALP5 expression was observed in two neuronal injury models, and transient expression of recombinant NALP5 in neurons induced caspase-3 activation and apoptosis, suggesting that NALP5 also plays a role in caspase activation and apoptosis in injured neurons, and may thus represent a novel target for therapeutic treatment in neurodegenerative disorders.

CCDC134 Antibody: The coiled-coil domain is a common protein motif that is often involved in protein oligomerization and is found in proteins such as transcription factors and intermediate filaments. One such protein is CCDC134, a recently identified secretory protein that has been found to inhibit the transcriptional activity of the Elk1 protein. Overexpression CCDC134 also inhibited the phosphorylation of Erk and JNK/SAPK but not p38 MAPK, while specific siRNA against CCDC134 activated Elk1 transcriptional activity and the phosphorylation of Erk and JNK/SAPK, suggesting a potential inhibiting role of CCDC134 in MAPK-mediated Elk1 transcription. CCDC134 is widely expressing in normal adult tissues, tumors, and cell lines.

Strumpellin is a ubiquitously expressed, multi-transmembrane and spectrin-repeat-containing protein. It is named for Strumpell disease; a progressive upper-motor neurodegenerative disease termed hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP). The Strumpellin gene maps to the eighth HSP locus (SPG8) on chromosome 8p24.13. Three families liked to this locus have mutations in the Strumpellin gene; rescue studies of zebrafish with decreased Strumpellin expression with Strumpellin mRNA containing these mutations showed impaired normal function of this protein. Recent studies suggest that Strumpellin may also be involved in protein aggregation diseases.

One such protein, WDR35, also known as CED2, has been shown to be mutated in patients with Sensenbrenner syndrome/cranioectodermal dysplasia (CED), an autosomal-recessive disease that is characterized by craniosynstosis and ectodermal and skeletal abnormalities. WDR35 localizes to cilia and dentrosomes during embryogenesis and human and mouse fibroblasts that lack this gene fail to produce cilia. Mutations in this gene can also cause short-rib polydactyly syndromes due to abnormal ciliogenesis.
