A passive blocking reagent designed to reduce assay interference from human anti-rabbit antibodies in immunoassays using rabbit antibodies.

  • Reduces false positives and false negatives caused by human anti-rabbit antibody interference
  • Improves assay reproducibility, particularly in complex or mixed-species formats
  • Compatible with ELISA, CLIA, and lateral flow assays, including Mab/Pab systems

Passive blocking reagents function by preventing interfering antibodies from binding to capture or detection antibodies through competitive binding. Rabbit IgG can be used in sandwich or competitive ELISAs and lateral flow assays that employ rabbit antibodies, where human anti-rabbit antibodies in patient samples may otherwise bind non-specifically and interfere with assay signals.

Animal IgG blockers such as rabbit IgG are species-specific and typically require addition at excess concentrations to effectively neutralize interference. In assays involving multiple antibody hosts, more than one passive blocker may be required depending on the species of both capture and detection antibodies, and overall effectiveness depends on the affinity of the interfering antibodies present in the sample.

Meridian's animal IgG reagents are produced with an emphasis on lot-to-lot consistency, scalability, and traceability, making them suitable for both research use and diagnostic assay development. Multiple species options are available to allow assay designers to match the blocker to their specific antibody system and improve assay performance and reproducibility.
