HPC broth and HPC broth with TTC Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC) broths are used to determine live heterotrophs in drinking water and other media at incubation temperatures of 35 °C. All bacteria grow on HPC with indicator media and produce a red color. This is a result of the precipitation of formazan following the reduction of 2,3,5- TTC by bacteria.
