TBE running buffer is the most commonly used buffer for DNA and RNA polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, after dilution to working concentrations.

• Soluble in water

TBE buffer maintains the structural integrity of nucleic acids and more suitable for their size analysis. TBE has a greater buffering capacity and will give sharper resolution. TBE is better suited for high-voltage (>150 V) electrophoresis because of its higher buffering capacity.

TBE is routinely used for DNA automated sequencing gel. TBE can also be used for agarose gels but is not recommended for preparative gels for recovery of nucleic acids
