About this item

VWR® Blue Light Transilluminator provides a safe and cost effective alternative to UV transilluminators for viewing gels stained with dyes excited in the blue light spectrum. Blue light excitation does not damage DNA samples and these dyes can be safe alternatives to hazardous Ethidium Bromide.

  • Blue wavelength does not damage DNA
  • Uniform illuminated surface
  • 465 nm wavelength, ideal for most fluorescent DNA stains
  • Amber cover is removable and can be set to an angle

VWR® Blue Light Transilluminator provides a safe and cost effective alternative to UV transilluminators for viewing gels stained with dyes excited in the blue light spectrum

The VWR® Blue Light Transilluminator emits a blue light with peak wavelength of 465nm, which is ideal for excitation of many of the common fluorescent DNA stains such as VWR® EZ Vision Blue Light Dye, EZ-Vision In Gel Solution, SYBR Green, SYBR Safe, Gel Green, and others.

The amber filter cover is used to block blue light wavelength and allows clear visualization of the stained DNA bands. This cover can be set at an angle to allow access to the gels for band cutting, or can be removed for using the transilluminator with an imaging enclosure.

Blue light excitation does not damage DNA samples and these dyes can be safe alternatives to hazardous Ethidium Bromide. The evenly illuminated viewing area can accomodate gels up to 12x17 cm, and the scratch resistant glass surface allows cutting out bands.

Ordering information: Amber filter cover is included. Optional viewing glasses are available.
Caution: The VWR® Blue Light Transilluminator emits a bright blue light. Users should not stare directly at the lighted surface without the Amber Cover in place or without proper Amber or Orange Glasses designed to block blue wavelength light.
