These Hempel Columns are enclosed in an evacuated jacket which is completely silvered except for two narrow clear strips 180° apart that serve as windows.

The column consists of a plain tube with full length Standard Taper inner joint at bottom and Standard Taper outer joint of the same size at top. Near the bottom there is a row of indentations to support random type packing material.
