About this item
Identify the family Enterobacteriaceae and other non-fastidious gram negative bacilli.
- Comprehensive panel
- Rapid results
- Easy to use and easy to interpret system
The Microgen Gram Negative ID system employs 12 (GN A) or 24 (GN A+B) standardized biochemical substrates in microwells to identify the family Enterobacteriaceae and other non-fastidious gram negative bacilli (oxidase negative and positive) within 18 to 24 hours (48 hours for oxidase positive and non-fermenter bacilli).
The GN A strip, with 12 substrates, can be used separately to identify the most commonly encountered Enterobacteriaceae, or used with the GN B strip for total of 24 substrates, to identify a much more extensive list of gram negative bacteria, including oxidase positive bacilli and non-fermenters. The kit is intended for professional laboratory use only.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Microgen GN-ID system comprises two separate microwell strips GN A and GN B. Each microwell strip contains 12 standardized biochemical substrates which have been selected on the basis of extensive computer analysis of published databases for the identification of the family Enterobacteriaceae and commonly encountered non-fastidious oxidase positive and negative gram negative bacilli. The dehydrated substrates in each well are reconstituted with a saline suspension of the organism to be identified. If the individual substrates are metabolized by the organism, a color change occurs during incubation or after addition of specific reagents. The permutation of metabolized substrates can be interpreted using the Microgen Identification System Software (MID60) to identify the test organism.
The GN A and GN B strips are used together to produce a 24 substrate system to identify non-fastidious gram negative bacilli, both oxidase negative and positive, including non-fermenters; in addition to all currently recognized species of the family Enterobacteriaceae (28 genera). Using both the GN A and GN B strips allow the microbiologist to identify 137 species of oxidase negative gram negative bacilli and 38 species of oxidase positive Gram negative bacilli (such as species of Pseudomonas, Alcaligenes, Flavobacterium, Aeromonas, Pasturella, Burkholderia, and Vibrio).
The GN B microwell strip is designed to be used only in conjunction with the GN A strip and not on its own.
The interpretation is facilitated by the Microgen Software Program (Cat. no. MID60), which is available for free upon request by Microgen users.
