Decorin influences the rate of fibril formation. It is a secreted protein that binds to collagen and fibronectin in extracellular matrix. Decorin occurs in different glycoforms, substituted with chondroitin sulfate or dermatan sulfate according to the original tissue. Defects in the gene coding for decorin causes corneal dystrophy.
