DMEM (Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium) is a widely used basal medium for supporting the growth of many different mammalian cells. Cells successfully cultured in DMEM include primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, and smooth muscle cells. We offer a variety of DMEM modifications for a range of cell culture applications.

DMEM is one of the most widely used modifications of Basal Medium Eagle (BME). DMEM was originally developed as a richer version of BME; with 4 times higher concentrations of amino acids, vitamins and some additional components than BME. DMEM is commonly used for the culture of normal and transformed cells.
Recommendation
To DMEM without L-glutamine, it is recommended to add L-glutamine prior to use at a final concentration of 4.0 mM.
DMEM with high glucose supports increased cell growth. DMEM without phenol red is beneficial to downstream purification processing of expressed proteins (i.e. mAb, VLP) that require the use of various chromatography processes. The addition of sodium bicarbonate creates a high buffer capacity in the medium and keeps the pH-value in the physiological area during cultivation. DMEM: Ham's F-12 without L-glutamine contains no proteins, lipids or growth factors; and uses a sodium bicarbonate system (1.2 g/L), therefore requiring a 5 to 10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH. L-glutamine addition, to DMEM without L-glutamine, at the time of use allows for limited degradation over time.
