Darlington transistors, or Darlington pairs, are compound structures consisting of two integrated bipolar transistors connected so that the current amplified by the first transistor is amplified further by the second one. The configuration of Darlington transistors gives them a much higher current gain than each transistor taken separately and take up less space than two individual transistors because they can use a shared collector. Typical applications for Darlington transistors include audio amplifier output stages, power regulators, motor controllers, and display drivers.
