The suffix “FI”, added to the name of the reagent, indicates that the reagent is “free of imidazole”. In 2015, the European Commission classified imidazole as a CMR substance and added H360D statement (“may damage the unborn child”).

Instead of imidazole, an alternative base has been used which does not compromise the performance of the Hydranal reagent.
