Cutting thin sample slices needed for routine microscopic examinations, microtomes use steel, glass, or diamond blades based on the specimen and hardness. These handheld or bench devices utilize different methods to precisely trim sections and are capable of adjusting the thickness to meet specific test desires. Accommodating disposable knives to eliminate honing requirements, prepared biological and botanical tissues are cut cleanly. Microtomes that incorporate clamps guarantee the specimen remain oriented correctly while being sized.
