The Optima™ range of advanced thermostats can be combined with plastic baths, premium stainless steel baths or refrigeration units. The TX150 and TXF200 thermostats feature a full colour QVGA TFT screen displaying actual and set temperature and clear status icons. The QVGA TFT screen, in combination with the easy to use dial and function keys, allows rapid navigation through the intuitive menu system. Both units have RS232 and USB interfaces and can be programmed via remote PC or laptop using Grant’s versatile Labwise™ software (optional). Additional features include countdown timer, adjustable over-temperature cut-out, visual, audible and programmable high and low temperature alarms. The TX150 has the capacity to store one program with 30 segments. The TXF200 can also be programmed via the user interface and can store up to 10 programs containing 100 segments. The programming interface includes set target temperature with a choice of time to target temperature or temperature ramp speed and an additional programmable relay for on/off control of ancillary equipment or refrigeration units.

Pyruvic acid is an intermediate in sugar metabolism and in enzymatic carbohydrate degradation (alcoholic fermentation) where it is converted to acetaldehyde and CO2 by carboxylase. In muscle, pyruvic acid (derived from glycogen) is reduced to lactic acid during exertion, which is reoxidized and partially retransformed to glycogen during rest. It improves coliform recovery when present in culture medium. It is involved in a metabolic regulatory pathway activated by mitochondrial oxidants. Pyruvate is involved in respiratory regulation in plants by interacting with alternative oxidase at a conserved cysteine residue. It may help prevent hydrogen peroxide mediated cell death.
Sodium pyruvate is utilized as a component in culture broth and media. Sodium pyruvate is used in Wallen fermentation medium to enhance the conversion of oleic acid to 10-ketostearic acid by Bacillus sphaericus. Sodium pyruvate has also been used to establish stably transfected human B cell lines.
Sodium Pyruvate has shown antioxidant properties and protective effects against oxygen radicals. Pyruvate is produced as part of glycolysis and is an intermediate in many metabolic pathways. It can be converted into acetyl CoA and enter the TCA Cycle.

Thrombopoietin (TPO) is a key regulator of megakaryocytopoiesis and thrombopoiesis in vitro and in vivo. TPO stimulates the proliferation and maturation of megakaryocytes and has an important role in regulating the level of circulating platelets in vivo (Bartley et al.; de Sauvage et al.; Foster et al.; Sohma et al.). TPO also promotes the survival, self-renewal, and expansion of hematopoietic stem cells and primitive multilineage progenitor cells. It is commonly used with other cytokines such as stem cell factor (SCF) and Flt3/Flk-2 ligand to promote expansion of primitive hematopoietic cells in culture (Hitchcock and Kaushansky). The TPO receptor, c-Mpl, is expressed at all stages of megakaryopoiesis, from hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells to mature platelets (Ng et al.).
