Crystallins are separated into two classes: taxon-specific, or enzyme, and ubiquitous. Blocks binding of the cytosolic coat protein b-COP and ARF to Golgi membranes mediated by protein G. Also blocks protein transportation into post-Golgi compartments. It activates the sphingomyelin cycle. Brefeldin A mediated apoptosis has been observed in human tumor cells.
