Friend leukemia integration 1 is a member of the ETS family of DNA binding transcription factors that is involved in cellular proliferation and tumorigenesis. Members of the Ets gene family share a highly conserved carboxy-terminal domain containing a sequence related to the SV40 large T antigen nuclear localization signal sequence. This gene is a member of the protocadherin gamma gene cluster, one of three related clusters tandemly linked on chromosome five. These gene clusters have an immunoglobulin-like organization, suggesting that a novel mechanism may be involved in their regulation and expression.
