Phase Separation Paper
Made of pure cellulose treated with hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid, filter papers are used for straining with good retention and flow rates. These cellulose filters create a semi-permeable barrier perpendicular to a liquid or airflow in order to separate fine substances from liquids or air. Different grades of filter paper are available for performing various laboratory applications including routine lab work, ranging from coarse to fine filtration of particulates. Avantor offers a wide range of qualitative and quantitative filter papers with varying pore size, particle retention, flow rate and filtration times.

Phase separating paper, grade 1PS
Supplier: Whatman products (Cytiva)
High grade filter paper impregnated with a stabilised silicone that renders it hydrophobic, retaining the aqueous phase and passing the solvent phase through.

Phase separating paper, grade 480
Supplier: Sartorius
This phase separating paper is impregnated with stabilised silicon, thus rendering it hydrophobic and it retains water, but allows solvents to flow through. The flow stops automatically when the entire solvent has passed through, this eliminates the need to use separating funnels.

Phase separating paper
Supplier: MACHEREY-NAGEL
These papers are made hydrophobic (impermeable to water) by impregnation with a silicone. With the aid of these filters, water can be separated from water-immiscible organic solvents in an elegant manner, by means of a simple filtration.
