A graduated block, water, and a beaker you provide are all you need to re-create Archimedes’ discovery that a body immersed in a fluid becomes lighter by an amount equal to that of the fluid it displaces. Add the included weights to the cube to demonstrate displacement; add enough to submerge the block and measure its mass with a spring scale to illustrate the effects of buoyancy. You can also teach the concepts of specific gravity and density.
