A drop of immersion oil between the slide and condenser, and between the slide and objective lens, provides a distortion-free path for light. Safe for all lenses, the low-fluorescence and light-viscosity oil won’t entrain air or dry out the slides or optics. The refractive index is 1.5150, the same as that of glass. From Cargille Labs, the most respected producer of high-quality immersion oil, the oil can easily be cleaned from slides with a bit of xylene on a lens tissue. It comes in an amber bottle with an application rod cap.
