Los líquidos vertidos pasan por succión al vacío a través de discos fritados o placas perforadas y salen por tallos largos e inclinados. Los estilos comunes, como Hirsh o Büchner con estrías, previenen bloqueos de aire y aceleran el proceso. La resistencia química y térmica permite que los embudos acanalados soporten materiales agresivos y procedimientos de esterilización repetitivos. Los modelos varían en capacidad, porosidad y tamaños compatibles de papel de filtro.
