Light reflective properties of the film, when used to seal clear bottom plates, maximise the sensitivity of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence assays in bottom-reading luminometers. White films have also been used as a backing matrix for microscopy of punch-out samples from filter plates.

A 139,7 µm thick hydrophobic porous film with medical grade adhesive for tissue culture plates, bio-blocks, and 96-well plates where gas exchange is necessary for cell or bacterial growth. End tabs with backing removed adhere to the ends of the plate and are perforated so they can be left in place even if the centre portion of the film is removed. For PCR applications, where piercing with pipette tips or robotic probes is required for product recovery, use aluminium foil films.
