Merck offers a wide range of solid and liquid culture media that also permits the fluorescence detection of E. coli under the trade name Fluorocult®. Fluorocult® culture media have the same components as the standard media and additionally the substrate MUG. Some of the media also contain tryptophan as the substrate for a possible indole reaction to further confirm E. coli presence. Caspase-8 Antibody: Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that can be divided into the apoptotic and inflammatory caspase subfamilies. FLIP, a catalytically inactive caspase-8-like molecule inhibits these interactions and thus can inhibit apoptosis. This antibody will only detect isoform E of caspase-8.

Ubiquitin-Like Protein ISG15 (ISG15) is a ubiquitin-like protein that becomes conjugated to many cellular proteins upon activation by interferon-alpha and -beta. Several functions have been ascribed to the encoded protein, including chemotactic activity towards neutrophils, direction of ligated target proteins to intermediate filaments, cell-to-cell signalling, and antiviral activity during viral infections. While conjugates of this protein have been found to be noncovalently attached to intermediate filaments, this protein is sometimes secreted. ISG15 becomes conjugated to a diverse set of proteins after IFN-alpha/beta stimulation or microbial challenge. The functions or biochemical consequences ISG15 conjugation to proteins are not yet known, but it appears that this modification does not target proteins for proteasomal degradation. ISG15 shows specific chemotactic activity towards neutrophils and activates them to induce release of eosinophil chemotactic factors. Upon interferon treatment, ISG15 can be detected in both free and conjugated forms and is secreted from monocytes and lymphocytes where it can function as a cytokine. In the cell, ISG15 co-localises with intermediate filaments and ISGylation may modulate the JAK-STAT pathway or certain aspects of neurological disease.

The complement system provides innate defense against microbial infection and is a "complement" to antibody mediated immunity. The complement system consists of thirty five interacting plasma and membrane associated proteins which contribute to host-defense and initiate and amplify inflammation, even in the preimmune state where specific antibodies and lymphocytes are not available. In addition to the complement components themselves, this system also contains several soluble factors that prevent spontaneous complement activation from occurring in solution, as well as, several regulatory membrane associated proteins that protect host cells from accidental complement attack. Cleavage of the C3 component by either the classical pathway or the alternative pathway releases C3a and C3b. C3a appears to be important in many inflammatory responses while the C3b fragment covalently binds to the cell or bacterial surface and plays a role in opsonisation. Binding of C3b to the C4b component of the C3 convertase, results in C5 convertase (C4b3b2a) formation

The total protein is measured using the Biuret procedure, with bovine albumin as a standard. Antibody titer is standardized to an in-house standard by equivalence-point precipitation. Each IgG fraction is tested for purity and specificity at a minimum of 40 mg/mL using immunoelectrophoresis. The product is mostly goat IgG; no trace of albumin is detected.

This product is suitable for use as a primary reagent in enzyme immunoassays, fluorescein immunoassays and blot, cell or tissue immunostaining. Note: F(ab')2 fragments are recommended for staining of cells or tissues which contain Fc receptors. The product has been successfully used in Immunoblotting.
