Sterile pharma needles have a tamper-proof cap to protect against contamination of the lumen. The needle is non-coring due to its sharp bevelled edge. High quality siliconisation of the shaft gives a very low drag value also leading to less risk of damage to the vial septum. The needle wall thickness is optimised for ease of use, i.e. the size of the lumen in relation to the needle thickness, so the needle shaft is thinner than an equivalent gauge standard needle without losing any strength.
