Fluorescein diacetate cell viability stain, Sigma-Aldrich®

Supplier: SIGMA ALDRICH MICROSCOPY

Fluorescein diacetate (FDA) is a non-fluorescent molecule, which is hydrolysed to fluorescent fluorescein in live cells. Dead cells cannot accumulate or hydrolyse FDA. Fluorescein diacetate has been used for the differentiation of live cells from dead cells.

Carminic acid ≥90% (by HPLC), Sigma-Aldrich®

Supplier: SIGMA ALDRICH MICROSCOPY

Carmine is a cochineal product usually furnished as an aluminum and calcium salt of carminic acid. Carminic acid is used for human-medical cell diagnosis and serves the purpose of the histological investigation of sample material of human origin. It is suitable for staining nuclei in histological sections. It is utilised in various staining methods including the procedure for detection of glycogen and mucous substances (Best′s carmine), for nuclear staining, or vital staining.

Formalin solution 10%, neutral buffered, Sigma-Aldrich®

Supplier: SIGMA ALDRICH MICROSCOPY

Formalin solution, neutral buffered, 10% is the most commonly used fixative for light microscopy. It requires a relatively short period of fixation. It is suitable for the long-term storage of tissue. Once properly fixed, the tissue should be able to withstand the subsequent stages of tissue processing or staining. 10% NBF is well suited for large throughput laboratories, and requires a relatively short period of fixation, but can also be used for the long-term storage of tissue. Formalin fixation is thought to form between the aldehydes and the proteins, creating a gel, thus retaining cellular constituents in their in vivo relationship.

Coomassie® brilliant blue R-250 in methanol for SDS-PAGE, Sigma-Aldrich®

Supplier: SIGMA ALDRICH MICROSCOPY

Brilliant Blue R concentrate is a methanol based stain especially designed for staining protein in polyacrylamide but will also stain agarose gels. The stain contains methanol and acetic acid so gels do not require fixing prior to staining. Brilliant Blue R Concentrate has been used for protein band detection after nondenaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, isoelectric focussing and SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). For detection of protein bands following electrophoresis.
