pH indicator widely used in culture media to identify pH changes from neutral (red) to acidic (yellow) values. Typically a change in colour from red to yellow indicates high rates of cellular death when used in tissue cultures. Observed to act as a weak oestrogen in the culture of breast cancer cells. Induced oogenesis from cells scraped from the surface of adult ovaries.
