Oleic acid, liquid, Practical grade
About this item
Oleic acid is a mono-unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid created by dehydrogenation of stearic acid. It is then further dehydrogenated and elongated to create members of the n-9 family of fatty acids.
Oleic acid is used as emollient. Small amounts of oleic acid are used as an excipient in pharmaceuticals. It is used as an emulsifying or solubilizing agent in aerosol products.
Oleic Acid activates protein kinase C in hepatocytes. It uncouples oxidative phosphorylati It inhibits 2,4-dinitrophenol -stimulated ATPase. Action reversed by adding serum albumin.
Soluble in methanol (40 mg/ml - clear solution), chloroform, benzene or fixed and volatile oils. Insoluble in water.
: Research Use Only (RUO).
- CAS Number:112-80-1
- Formula:C₁₈H₃₄O₂
- MDL Number:MFCD00064242
- Molecular Weight:282.47 g/mol
