Crucibles contain solutions to be dried for constant weight using extreme temperatures then to be ashed for minimizing weight. Often featuring a perforated bottom, the vessels serve as a filter depositing precipitates. The high grade containers are offered in both high and low form styles with or without lids. These reusable crucibles made from alumina (aluminum oxide) are used for TGA measurements. After mechanical cleaning, store them in water (or possibly even in 10% hydrochloric acid) because many salts are soluble in water. Oxides form chlorides in hydrochloric acid, which can be removed by rinsing. After drying, heat the crucibles to red heat to ensure that no weight loss occurs when they are used.
