Designed to achieve spectral line source requirements, the hollow cathode lamps permit the intense emission of resonance lines, narrow line width for maximum sensitivity and linearity, minimal spectral interference from continuum emission, and rapid warm-up to produce stable, long-term light emission. Used primarily in physics and chemistry applications, the light sources support atomic absorption spectrometers and lasers for frequency tuning. Operating without noise, the hollow cathode lamps feature hermetically sealed glass that fills cleanly with gas.

Electrodeless discharge lamps
Supplier: PerkinElmer
These electrodeless discharge lamps are preferred for certain volatile elements. They offer better precision and lower detection limits for analyses that are 'noisy' due to weak hollow cathode emission. PerkinElmer system 2 EDLs consist of the element or a salt of the element sealed in a quartz bulb containing an inert gas atmosphere. When an RF field of sufficient power is applied, the inert gas is ionised and the coupled energy vaporizes the element and excites the atoms inside the bulb, resulting in the emission of the characteristic spectrum.
