Crosslinker-delen af enheden har en UV-lysemission ved 254 nm for binding af DNA til en membran på få sekunder. UV-dosis kan enten angives som tid eller som energi i mikrojoule pr. cm² for at give så nøjagtig en eksponering som muligt.
