Thayer Martin medium base is recommended for selective isolation of Gonococci from pathological specimens.

Addition of Vancomycin Colistin methane sulphonate, Nystatin (FD023) and Vancomycin, Colistin methane sulphonate, Trimethoprim Nystatin (FD024) makes medium selective for Gonococci spp. Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis grows luxurinatly on this media. N. gonorrhoeae appears as small sized , grayish white to colourless, mucoid while N. meningitidis appears as medium to large sized , blue grey coloured, mucoid colonies.
