Ficoll® 400

Ficoll® 400 is a neutral, highly branched, hydrophilic polymer of sucrose which dissolves readily in aqueous solution. Concentrations up to 50% (w/v), covering a density range up to 1,2 g/ml, can be obtained without exceeding normal osmolarity. Ficoll™ 400 is suitable for the preparation of continuous and discontinuous density gradients, for stabilisation of membrane-bound particles, and for isolation of lymphocytes.

• Better osmotic properties than sucrose, preserving functional and morphological integrity
• Does not penetrate biological membranes
• Readily soluble in aqueous solution
• Molecular biology grade (free from DNase and RNase) is suitable for use in hybridisation buffers like Denhardt's Solution
