Vævskulturbufferopløsninger giver en energikilde, opretholder korrekt pH-niveau og sikrer ideelt osmotisk tryk. Anvendt primært i biomolekylær forskning har de tørre og flydende stoffer en afbalanceret sammensætning af uorganiske salte. Lavkoncentrationsmuligheder tillader udligning med luft i et lukket system, mens højere salt-koncentrationsmuligheder holder gasfaser i ligevægt. Cellevækst er optimal, når de dyrkes i et næringsmedium, der er blevet bufferet.
