Toluen eller methylbenzen er en farveløs væske, der anvendes som organisk opløsningsmiddel til industrielle formål. Toluen i høj renhed, egnet til histologi- og cytologiapplikationer, til spektrofotometri og analyse af organiske rester, fås i forseglede glasflasker og ståldunke. Det aromatiske kulbrinte, opbevaret ved stuetemperatur, har den karakteristiske lugt af malingstyndere.
